What is a dietitian?
A dietitian is a degree-qualified health professional who:
• helps to promote nutritional well-being, treat disease and prevent nutrition- related problems
• teach in higher education.
• provides practical, safe advice, based
on current scientific evidence
• holds a graduate qualification in nutrition and dietetics in the UK
What do dietitians do?
• translate nutrition science into understandable, practical information about food, allowing people to make. appropriate lifestyle and food choices
• treat a range of medical conditions with dietary therapy, specially tailored to each individual.
• advise on healthy eating for all ages, races, cultures and social groups.
• conduct research relating to health, diet and nutrition.
Only dietitians registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) can use the legally protected title ‘dietitian’ and Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law and governed an ethical code, to ensure that they always work to the highest standard.

My training and time as clinical NHS dietitian and in public health, working with local government, adults, schools, children and families, has shown me that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach in nutrition.
Nutrition is never black and white and these days we’re overloaded with information. My passion lies in helping people to cut through all of the nutrition science and simplifying it; tailoring it to work for them, their budget and their lives.
I use an evidence-based, weight-inclusive approach with no faddy diets. Working with people to make these tailored, sustainable changes to their health behaviours independent of their weight. This incorporates nutrition, self care and finding a way to be active that works for them.
Changing health behaviours can lead to positive health outcomes – things like learning how to cook or prepare balanced, satisfying meals to suit all budgets, finding a way to move our bodies that we enjoy, finding a way to deal with our emotions that doesn’t always involve food. These things can be game-changers.
I work with clients across Brighton & Hove and virtually or via telephone for those who can’t attend clinic. I also offer affordable workshops and group classes for those who are unable to attend one-to-one services.
My one-to-one clinics cover a range of conditions, including:
• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Allergies and intolerances
• Women’s health - including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Dyslipidaemia (high cholesterol)
• Disordered eating (not suitable for those with an active eating disorder - please contact me to find out more)
• Nutrition for conception and pregnancy
• Impaired glucose tolerance (‘pre-diabetes’)
• Fitness and health
• Specialised diets (vegan, vegetarian)
• Coeliac disease
• General nutrition advice
